Bio

Ray “Alief Ali” Talib Jr was originally born in Virginia but has lived in Houston most of his life, which is where most of his family is from and his dad is from. He was in Virginia as my dad was in the army, but he has no family there. He trains at Main St Boxing Gym in downtown Houston with Coach Bobby Benton.

Ray has been an athlete since the age of 5, playing basketball up until middle school. Then, he played football from middle school to junior college. He had no plan to box, that came later in life. From his early teens to young adulthood, he was getting caught up in street life. As a young adult, it became worse and he was facing multiple felony cases when his best friend Utah Ussoh introduced him to boxing. There, he picked up the craft of becoming a coach in the army. At the time, he says, ""I used it as a stress reliever and to stay out of trouble but eventually fell in love with the sport. I ended up violating my probation and did 6 months in jail and made the decision in jail to take boxing seriously."" People told him he was too old because he was 25. However, when he got out of jail, he turned amateur and he had about 12-15 fights. He turned open after his second fight and never looked back. As of 2024, his record is 8-1 pro boxing in the super welterweight division.
