Born in Cuba, when Erisnelsy Torres Castillo was a young girl, she was a powerlifter for her country. She held the record for her weight class. Then she fell in love with boxing, but Cuba at that time, did not allow girls to box so she was only allowed in a few gyms. Her father and other trainers would help her, but she was unable to get in the ring and fight. Castillo's dream was always to be a professional boxer, so Castillo and her family did whatever they could to get her to America so she could achieve her goal of becoming a professional fighter and eventually, world champion one day.
